ABOUT WORSHIP & MUSIC

Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.

Psalm 100:2

Music & Worship Arts

Music is not merely an important part of worship. Music is worship, and we serve God by offering our best music to facilitate our congregation’s relationship with God. We offer two different worship services styles on Sunday, a Traditional Service and a Modern Service called Ignite. For details about the two styles of worship, along with the times and locations for each, click HERE. You can also watch past services by clicking on the Watch Menu.

The music program at First Presbyterian in Greenville, SC, includes children’s, youth, and adult choirs, a handbell choir, and an orchestra. All musicians in the program see music as a continual journey toward excellence, and musicians at all skill levels are invited to join us in musical and spiritual growth. Please see Worship and Music Opportunities below for current events and ways to connect.

Music Arrangement

“Immortal, Invisible” is an anthem composed by Dustan Chevalier, FPC’s Director of Instrumental Music. The anthem has the text of the familiar hymn with a beautiful new melody, arranged for SATB choir and piano.

Music for everyone

OUR HEART: Create a Community of Worshipers

We believe that worship has the ability to transform individuals, congregations, and cultures. Our excellent musical leadership invites congregants, as well as instrumentalists and choral members, to grow in their knowledge and love of God. We involve musicians from the congregation and the community in all services. Through the Worship & Music ministry, we seek to cultivate meaningful relationships on a spiritual level with God and an interpersonal level within our community.

Community Engagement

We continue to facilitate and host events, both on our campus and in the community. Past concerts include the annual Christmas@First Concert, performances of Handel’s Messiah, a Southern Gospel Homecoming, and a Night of Prayer held at the TD Stage with our neighbors from Buncombe Street United Methodist Church. We partner with local groups and schools, providing facilities and opportunities for engagement and growth.

Music Education for all ages

We are passionate about facilitating music education within the First Pres community. We encourage students to participate in choir, orchestra, and the Ignite band as a way for them to both gain live, professional experience and to create meaningful relations with staff and congregants who share similar giftings. Our many opportunities for children and students include the Carol, Cherub, Covenant, and Resonate choirs, and the Roots band. We are continuing to grow our handbell choir, Sanctuary choir, orchestra, and Ignite band. In the future, we hope to offer classes and workshops for congregants on topics such as hymnology, music literacy, modern worship, organ basics, and more.
